Help:Proofreading
How to assist by proofreading text |
Hello, we would love for you to help us with proofreading documents on bahai.works. Proofreading is a valuable contribution because it improves the reliability of our search feature considerably, making it more likely that other editors, researchers and interested parties will be able to find the information they are looking for. An error in the spelling of a last name can make a big difference to someone doing research on that individual.
What to work on[edit]
There is a large volume of text that remains to be proofread, more than 3,000 pages at the time of writing. You can work on any of them, but here are some suggestions:
- The Bahá’í World volumes. Proofreading has been completed or is underway on the first 7 volumes, and as with Baha'i News these volumes are valuable sources of history.
- World Order Magazine. These are less frequently cited on Bahaipedia, but are sometimes cited academically. Proofreading this collection would probably be more interesting in terms of content, and helpful to scholars.
- In Memoriam 1992-1997. Searches for people are usually the most frequent type of search performed, and some of these biographies are just a few pages long, so a large number of pages can be completed with minimal effort.
How to edit[edit]
Bahai.works runs on the same software as Wikipedia, meaning all pages can be edited. There is a notepad and pencil icon near the search box, pressing that takes you to the edit screen. You can make changes to the page, correcting text against a PDF copy which is attached to the page, then press "Save changes" when you are done. For a more detailed guide see Bahaiworks:Editing.
