Search this collection

Bahai.works is structured so that searches can be performed against all content, or subsets of content. A special qualifier "prefix" is necessary to begin searching subsets of content. The search box that is at the top of every page searches the entire collection of documents hosted here by default. Several pages have embedded search boxes to facilitate searching of specific collections. They will look like the search box next to this text. These search boxes automatically append the "prefix" qualifier necessary to search subsets of pages, but here is the description of how pages are structured and how this qualifier works so that you can search content subsets without needing to use the embedded search box.

Structure of content[edit]

Content is typically structured with two levels, pages and subpages like this: Document/Subpage. The periodical World Order Magazine which has Volume, Issue structure has three levels, World Order/Volume_#/Issue_#. Each level can be searched separately using the prefix qualifier.

Prefix search qualifier[edit]

When searching you can add prefix:Document/ to your search query to search only within the subset of content that has Document as its root. Here are some examples, let's say we wanted to search for God. You would enter in the search box:

  • God prefix:World_Order/
This will search God in all of World Order, (1935-2008), but nothing else on the site.
  • God prefix:World_Order/Volume_1/
This will search God only in World Order, Volume 1 (Issues 1 through 12)

Note, the trailing slash (/) is not strictly necessary, but if you exclude it and there happens to be a similarly named publication, like World Order Today you would end up accidentally including that content also. Likewise if you removed it while trying to search only within Volume_1 you would end up including content like Volume_10, 11, 12, etc. also.

Search by year or decade[edit]

You can search within a series of pages assigned to the same category, for example Category:1970 or Category:1970s for the decade. Add incategory:1970 or incategory:1970s to search within those years or decades. You can add multiple incategory statements. You can exclude a category by adding a minus sign before the incategory statement.

Search by author[edit]

You can search within the subset of pages that have been authored by an individual. Add incategory:"Text of works by Author Name" to your search term. Note this will not include works authored by that individual that appear in periodicals like World Order.

Removing pages from search results[edit]

If you would like to exclude pages or terms from the search results you can use the minus operator. Enter in the search bar:

  • God -"Lights of Guidance"
This will search God but exclude the copy of Lights of Guidance which we have mirrored here.
