IN MEMORIAM 1009

ARTHUR ALLEN ZUCKER 1901—1991

Arthur Zucker was born into a Jewish family in New York City on 17 March 1901. He first heard of the Faith in Chicago, and studied it there for several years. In 1954, he returned to his native New York, where, together with his wife, Dorothy, and son, Bill, he attended Bahá’í meetings and study Classes regularly. During this time, he went to weekly meetings at the Kinney house in New Jersey, at the Evergreen Log Cabin in Teaneck, as well as at the New York Bahá’í Center. He declared his belief in Baha’u’llah in 1956. In his twilight years, he often talked about how he became a Bahá’í and often mentioned with regret that it took him many years to become one, even though in his heart he had wanted to embrace the Faith when he heard of it in Chicago.

Arthur was a salesman by profession. He had studied drama and was an eloquent speaker. Thus he frequently served as a speaker in many Bahá’í communities. In New York, he and Dorothy conducted a Bahá’í study class on The Divine Art of Living for more than ten years. He also served as treasurer of the Local Spiritual Assembly of New York for several years.

Arthur was a steadfast and devoted Bahá’í teacher. He and Dorothy pioneered for a time to the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean, then returned to the United States where they served as homefront pioneers in North Carolina for many years. Arthur travelled to teach in the mass teaching areas of South Carolina in the 19703. He would go to retirement and nursing homes to Visit and perform Broadway musicals to cheer up the residents. V

In 1980, after his wife’s passing, When he was 79 years of age and in a wheelchair, he went to Fiji to pioneer with his only son and daughter—in—law. In Fiji, he taught the Faith as unrestrainedly as always. Unforeseen circumstances forced him to leave Fiji after two years. After consultation with the

appropriate institutions, he went to the Mariana Islands to pioneer. He actively served and taught the Faith there to his last days on this earth.

Arthur passed away on 19 March 1991. When the news reached the Univers a1 House of Justice, they sent the following message on 20 March:

The National Spiritual Assembly of the United States sent the following cable:
