PROGRESS OF THE CAUSE IN ENGLAND.
           The following articles, "A Wonderful Movement in the East"
and "Message from Abdul-Baha," appeared in the December
28, 1910, issue of THE CHRISTIAN COMMONWEALTH, published
at 133 Salisbury Square, London, E. C.
A WONDERFUL MOVEMENT IN THE EAST.
A VISIT TO ABDUL-BAHA AT ALEXANDRIA.
           To most of us the world consists of modern
Europe, North America, South Africa, Australia, and
since the Russo-Japanese war, in a lesser degree,
Japan. Our daily newspapers keep us informed,
more or less accurately, of movements social, political
and religious, that occur within those lands, but of
the rest of the world we are for the most part ignorant.
In this there is a danger that we may fail to
read the signs of the times, not because we are necessarily
lacking in wisdom, but because we do not
behold the signs. The Bahai movement is a good
illustration of this. Not one Englishman in a thousand
has heard of this religious and social uprising
in the East, yet its adherents are estimated to number
millions, and its power and influence are growing
week by week! In order that our readers may be informed
about this remarkable outpouring of the
divine spirit, a representative of The Christian Commonwealth
recently called upon Mr. Wellesley Tudor-Pole,
who has just returned from the East, where
he has been studying the movement at first hand.
           "How did you come to be interested in the Bahai
movement?" he said. 
           "I first heard of the movement when on a visit to
Constantinople prior to the Turkish revolution in
1908, and I was very much impressed by the fact
that Abdul-Baha could exert such an influence from
within prison walls. When I returned to London I
found that very little was known of the movement,
and I determined to visit Abdul-Baha, known to the
outside world by the name of 'Abbas Effendi,' on the [Page 2] first available opportunity and discover for myself
the secret of his power.

           "And it is most extraordinary," Mr. Pole continued,
"that so little should be known of this movement
in England. There are said to be between two
and three million Bahais at least in Persia alone,
and many more in India, the Middle East, America,
France, Russia, and elsewhere. There is no religious
freedom in Persia; if there were it would be found
that very great numbers of men would declare themselves
disciples. No less than thirty thousand men
and women in Persia alone are reported to have
sacrificed everything for the movement. I met an old
Persian Bahai in Alexandria―his name was Sheik
Mahommed―who joined the movement when he was a
young man, and he was publicly flogged and all his
property was taken from him. He and his whole
household were sent out into the mountains in the
heart of winter without food or money. Many times
he has been imprisoned, and it has been a miracle
how he has escaped with his life. In many towns
and villages he has been stoned and brutally treated.
Hundreds of men and women have proved themselves
ready to endure such treatment, to leave home and
country, for the sake of their great ideal."
           "What is the ideal which has inspired such heroism?"
           "The fundamental principle of what has come to be
called the Bahai Revelation is a belief in the underlying
unity of religions and peoples. It stands for
the harmony of all spiritual truths and all faiths, for
international peace and goodwill. It asserts the
equality of the sexes, the duty of everyone to serve
the community, and the duty of the community to
give opportunity for such service. It desires a social
order where the brotherhood of man shall be expressed
in all the relationships of life, and where
the community shall be responsible for the sick,
the aged, the infirm, and all who cannot obtain
their own livelihood."
           "What gave birth to this movement?"
           "It arose in 1844, when a young Persian, Mirza Ali
Mohammed, went about Eastern Europe prophesying
that a great teacher would follow him. He called
himself the Bab (the Gate), and stood as the John
the Baptist of the new movement. He affirmed that
the coming teacher would not only fulfil the prophecies [Page 3] of the Koran, but also of the sacred scriptures
of the Hindu and Hebrew peoples. Mirza Ali Mohammed
was bitterly persecuted, and finally shot in
1850. By this time the movement had spread all
over Persia, and in the early fifties Bahá 'Ullah, the
son of a noble Persian family, came forward and
proclaimed himself the teacher who had been promised.

Persian and Turkish Governments, spurred on by the
Mullahs, who were alarmed by the spread of the new
teaching, Bahá 'Ullah and his family were first sent

town on the Syrian coast, where Bahá 'Ullah was
kept in more or less close confinement until his death,
at the age of seventy-five, in 1892. At times he was

of the imprisonment of the leader, the movement
spread with tremendous rapidity throughout the
Middle East. Pilgrims came from India and other
distant parts to receive the blessing of Bahá 'Ullah

           "What happened when he died?"
           "He left a book of laws and many other works,
and instructed his followers to look to his eldest
son, Abdul-Baha, to carry on his work and to expound
his writings. Abdul-Baha, which means the
'Servant of God,' was kept in prison at Acca until the
time of the Turkish Revolution in 1908, when, along
with all political prisoners, he was released. He
went to live near Haifa, close to Mt. Carmel, but
about two months ago he started on a journey, and is
now in Egypt. That is a bare outline of the progress
of the movement, but it gives no idea of the
extraordinary power that lies behind it."
           "Did you meet Abdul-Baha on your recent visit to
the East?"
           "Yes, I met Abdul-Baha near Alexandria, where
he was staying with some of his followers. Let me
try to give you a word-picture of him. He is sixty-five
years of age, of medium height and of commanding
presence; he has long silver-gray beard and hair,
blue-grey eyes, a fine forehead, a wonderful carriage,
and a sweet but powerful voice. He was dressed
when I saw him, in cream white robes and a white[Page 4] Persian headdress. You feel at once that here is a
master of men and a marvellous spiritual personality.
He seemed to me to focus in a truly divine manner
the spiritual ideal of the coming age. When one
has come in contact with Abdul-Baha's power, or
rather the power behind him, one has no doubt that
this movement will vitally affect the religious and
social evolution of the whole world. At his table I
met pilgrims who had come to receive his blessing
from many parts of the world, and representing almost

MESSAGE FROM ABDUL-BAHA TO "THE CHRISTIAN COMMONWEALTH."

To the Editor of The Christian Commonwealth.
           My Dear Friend:―I have received your letter,
for the contents of which I am extremely grateful to
you. I understand the aims of your movement, and
hope that with the greatest spirituality and by the
pursuit of truth, it will succeed in bringing about the
unification of mankind. 
           Enclosed you will find some of the sayings of Bahá 'Ullah:
insert them in The Christian Commonwealth.
           Be so kind as to accept for yourself and your
honourable society my kindest regards.

           The extracts enclosed from the sayings of Bahá 'Ullah illustrate
the universality of the Bahai outlook. We quote the following:
           "Today the universal religion of God, the great
Church of God, is divided into diverse faiths which

O people of Baha, therefore fasten securely
the girdle of endeavour so that the discussions and
strifes between the various sects of the world may
be destroyed. For the love of God, I call upon you,

matter!"

tolerance."
           "O peoples of the world! Ye are all leaves of the
same branch and plants in the same garden; live in
love, concord, friendship and union. I declare by
the Sun of Truth that it is the light of fellowship
which makes the heavens full of brightness."
           "If you possess a saying, a treasure, of which
other peoples are deprived, tell it to them with affection. . . . The
message of the prophets, the revelations
of the sacred scriptures have no other aim
but the knowledge of God, and the unity of mankind."
           "O peoples, do not spill blood and do not seize the
goods of others. By my life, the sword of good character
and kindness is sharper than a sword of iron.
Those men are truly wise who are decorated with the
ornaments of science and character; these are the
head of the body of mankind. The ruling of man
has always been in their hands. I ask God to assist
them to do what He wishes, what pleases Him. Truly
He is the Master of creation, the Lord of the beginning
and of the end!"

TUDOR POLE.
TO THE BAHAI NEWS:
           You may be interested in hearing of my recent
visit to Abdul-Baha at Ramleh, near Alexandria. I
spent nine days at Alexandria and Cairo during
the second half of November, 1910. Abdul-Baha's
health had very greatly improved since his arrival
from Port Said. He was looking strong and vigorous
in every way. He spoke much of the work in America,
to which he undoubtedly is giving considerable
thought. He also spoke a good deal about the work
that is going forward in different European centres
as well as in London, and he expects great things
from England during the coming year. It may interest[Page 6] you to know, however, that the Bahai Movement
is beginning to take a more serious hold on public
attention in this country, and that during the next
few weeks a number of meetings are to be held in
London, Bristol and in the North, which are likely to
produce far-reaching results. A Bahai paper is to
be read at the Universal Races Congress in London
next July.

LONDON NEWS NOTES.
           Saturday, Dec. 31st, at 10 Cheniston Gardens, Kensington
High St., W., a meeting was called for Mr.
Tudor-Pole to speak of his visit to Abdul-Baha in
Egypt and "The Glory of God as Revealed in Persia."
It was the largest meeting we have had in
London and the seed sown is already bearing fruit.
In the opinion of the speaker, "the year 1911 is undoubtedly
to be one of very great importance, and
London will be the focus point for great events."
He expressed the hope that among the numerous
congresses, conferences, and Imperial gatherings to
be held here, there would be a Bahai Congress, attended
by delegates from all parts of the world. He
thought the time had come for an international residential
and social club, open to all comers without
distinction of race, creed, or sex, and urged his
hearers to do all in their power to work together in
harmony and joy for the great ideal of universal
unity and peace. The January 7th issue of Light,
published at 110 St. Martin's Lane, W. C., contains
a report of this address of Mr. Tudor-Pole.
           John M. Watkins, 21 Cecil Court, Charing Cross
Road, W. C., has recently issued an abbreviated publication
of Fariddudin Attar's version of "The Seven
Valleys," which is the work that led to BAHA'O'LLAH
giving His Explanation thereof. Price Threepence.
           An address on the Bahai Movement given at the
City Temple, London, Sunday, Oct. 10, 1910, by Tamadun
ul Molk, has been printed in pamphlet form by
the Bahai Press, 47 Vicarage Road, East Sheen,
S. W.
Arthur Cuthbert.
           Mr. William J. Patchin, aged 28 years, a native of London,
England, died at Teheran, Persia, Dec. 31, 1910. He lived
the Bahai life and was constantly serving in the Cause. He
had resigned his position with the Indo-European Telegraph Co.
that he might go to Egypt to see Abdul-Baha, when he was
suddenly summoned to the Supreme.

           Verily I read thy letter which indicated thy steadfastness in the Covenant of God and evinced thy
walking in the Straight Path toward the Kingdom of

           Verily I entered in the country of Egypt, trusting
in God, attracted to His Kingdom and enkindled
with the Fire of His Love, hoping to arise in the
Servitude of the Threshold of Baha, and I am always,
day and night, serving. There is no rest,
tranquility or composure.
           I beg of God to encircle ye with the Most Great
Bounty and confirm ye with the Most Eminent Grace
which consists of building the Mashrak-el-Azkar of
America in Chicago! This foundation will have the
greatest effect in the hearts of the people of faithfulness.
Therefore, endeavor ye with all your power
and generosity so that ye may raise this first
foundation in the Name of Bahá on the continent of
America.
           I supplicate God to pour upon thee heavenly blessings
and that thy family be protected from every
sadness and sorrow in this world.

such a station as to bring about the unity of the
East and of the West.
           Do not become discouraged, nor yet dispirited!

           The Persian section of the BAHAI NEWS, No. 17,
contained an exposition of the recent events in
Mashad and Shiraz, calling the attention of the Government
to stop the persecution of the Bahais and
to deal justly with all their citizens so that other
powers may not entertain the idea that they are not
capable of self-government. The Persian section this
issue contains (1) an article on Abdul-Baha's trip to
Egypt, a few incidents relating to the trip, his promise
to visit America, and the formation of an inter-assemblies'
committee to prepare the way for his
coming; (2) news of the death of Monsieur Lucien
Dreyfus-Cardozo, father of Monsieur Hippolyte
Dreyfus.
NEWS NOTES.
           Monsieur Lucien Dreyfus-Cardozo, father of Monsieur Hippolyte
Dreyfus, died suddenly the 4th of January at Paris,
France. The family are all Bahais and this has enabled them
to accept the separation with courage.

           Excellent presentations of the Bahai Revelation have recently
appeared in the October and November issues of The Journal of
the Knights of Labor, Washington, D. C., by Col. Archie C.
Fisk, and in the November 13th issue of The St. Paul (Minn.)
Pioneer Press, which contained an interview with Mr. Bernard
Temple by their London correspondent. 
           During November and the early part of December, Mr. Louis
G. Gregory of Washington, D. C., took a trip to several points
south in the interest of the Revelation of BAHA'O'LLAH. Eight
cities or towns were visited, and in the form of free public lectures
the glad-tidings were heralded directly to about nine hundred
souls. Indications are that the colored people of the
south will be very deeply and vitally interested. The oppression
of centuries having made many of them live very close to
God, to them the Holy Spirit is a reality, and if the Message
is presented with fragrance, their hearts respond and often
yield.

سفر حضرت عبدالبهاء به بلاد مصر
امروزیکی از مهمّترین و اعظمترین وقایعی که در عالم بهائیّه اتّفاق افتاد و آثار نیکویش قلوب هر یک از بهائیان شرق و غرب را شبستان نورانی سرور و فرح نموده همانا سفر میمنت مسعود حضرت عبدالبهاء به خطه مصر است . از این سفر روح جدیدی و اثر غریبی در ابدان احبّای الهی دمیده شده و قرن نورانی بجهت انتشار امرالله در آفاق جهان افتتاح گردید . زیرا چون وجود مبارک با قدرتی ملکوتی و قوّتی آسمانی قیام ب سفر به اطراف فرمود پرچم وحدت عالم بشر را بلند کرد در مجامع عظمی ذکر امر حضرت ابهی را به گوش دور و نزدیک رسانید و ناس را باد آن جانبخش دعوت بشریعۀ غرا و سمحۀ بیضاء نمود لاجرم ما بهائیان باید در آثار قدم او مشی نمائیم و وجود خود را به صفات جمیله و فضائل کامله او بیارائیم . در همان لحظه که قمر میثاق و نقطۀ اشراق از مدینۀ عکّا خارج گردید و از دروازۀ سجن اعظم بیرون آمد بهائیان هم فی الحقیقه آزاد شدند و زمان سکوت و صموت را در زاویۀ نشینان انداختند و با اشتعالی جهانسوز و اخگری عالم افروز و موجی دریا شکن و همهمه و غلغلۀ پر وله و شور به تبلیغ امرالله و ترویج دین الله در هر گوشه و کنار قیام نمودند و هرکس را بصیرت حقیقت بین است بخوبی ادراک خواهد نمود که بهائیان امروز بهائیان یکسال پیش از این نیستند اگر ضعیف بودند قوّت یافتند اگر ساکت بودند چون بلبل بهشت برین شهناز سرور سرودند اگر بیچاره بودند تأیید و توفیق حاصل نمودند چه که حرکت حضرت عبدالبهاء آنها را به صدای جهانگیر خطاب فرمودند ای یاران روحانی عبدالبهاء تا چند ساکتید و تا کی صامت هر چند ناطقید ولی در این قرن نطق احبّای الهی باید ترانۀ ملکوت ابهی باشد و آهنگ ملاء اعلی لهذا عبدالبهاء بصوت حقیقت و نالۀ حزین قناعت ننماید ولوله خواهد بود و دمدمه جوید و نعره برآرد و فریاد زند تا حقایق اشیاء بحرکت درآید و دلبر موهبت در جهان آفرینش رخ بگشاید این است که از اثر این

بیانات آتش فشان حیات جوان بهائی جوانی از سر گرفته و دورۀ تجدّد بمیان آمده و تمرکز قوای معنوی بهائیان شرق و غرب تحققّ یافته اتّحاد و اتفاق غریبی در میان اعضاء پراکنده این جمع نمودار شده و چون هیئت جامعۀ بهائیّه حکیم حاذق جمیع در د المهای انسانی است و علمدار آزادی و برابری و برادری حقیقی باین اطفال بشر و داعی علوم و فنون این قرن و ناشر وحدت و یگانگی جهان بشر لهذا این اتحّاد و اتّفاق را فال نیک میزنیم . واین سرور و فرح بهائیان در بعضی الواح اخیر منعکس گردیده ذکر نمائی
قوله تعالی : اظهار سرور و شادمانی از سفر من به اقلیم یوسف کنعانی نموده بودی این انشراح و انبساط بسیار بجاست باید شما و جمیع اماء رحمن و احبّای الهی نهایت شادمانی از این سفر داشته باشند که عبدالبهاء بعد از چهل و دو سال مکث در سجن محکم متین در نهایت وقار و اقتدار باین اقلیم عظیم رحلت نموده هیچکس را گمان چنین نبود که روزی آید که روزی آید که زنجیر و سلاسل از گردن عبدالبهاء برداشته شود و بر گردن عبدالحمید ظالم گذارده شود آن غدّار را آزرد چنانکه عبدالبهاء در قعر چاه محو و نابود گردد حال الحمدالله او بقعر چاه افتاد و البّته عبدالبهاء باوج ماه رسد و از این سفر البّته بعون و عنایت جمال مبارک ثمر کلیّ حاصل گردد . چهل و سه سال بود که عبدالبهاء در مدینه عکّا مسجون و روش و سلوکی نمود که جمیع بیگانگان معترف بر آن بودند که جمیه شئون موافق رضای حضرت بیچون است محبّت و مهربانی و رعایت و انسانی بجمیع به درجۀ بود که سبب حیرانی جمیع طوائف بود . حال ما در این کشور بخدمت آستان مقدّس مشغولیم و امید چنان است که از این سفر به ثمری مؤیّد شویم و در میدان عبودیّت جنبش و حرکتی نمائیم ید غیبی ابواب را مفتوح نمود حکمت چنین اقتضاء کرد که عبدالبهاء باقلیم مصر بشتابد زیرا از ایّام سابق بی نهایت خجل و شرمسار است که موفقّ به عبودیّت نشد بلکه از سفر باین دیار در استقبال بادنی خدمتی مؤیّد شود حال در کشور ماه کنعانی هستم و شب و روز تبتلّ بآسمان رحمانی نمایم و یاران الهی را تأیید و توفیق طلبم تا کلّ در عبودیّت الله مقدّسه شریک و سهیم گردیم و شاید بخدمتی موفقّ شویم . این بود چند فقره از خود قلم مبارک در باب رحلتشان بمصر کنعانی و اگرچه در اینوقت ذکر سفر حضرت عبدالبهء شد برای یاران شرق نمودن زیره به کرمان بردن است ولی چون این واقعه یکی از بزرگترین مسائل امری است شرح آن خارج از بحث نه . جناب جناب آقا سیّد اسدالله قمی روحیفداه مینویسند روزیکه حضرت من یظهره الله میخواستند سفر نمایند اوبل بزیارت مقام اعلی تشریف برده و در مراجعت توجّه به کشتی نمودند و در فاصله دو روز فانی و شوقی

افندی و نورالدّین افندی و خسرو را احضار فرمودند و جز آقا میرزا منیر و یک مسافر مصری آقا عبدالحسین بن آقا محمّد تقی اصفهانی کسی دیگر در حضور مبارک نبود مدّت یکماه دکتر در پورت سعید تشریف داشتند و احباب مصری به نوبه می آمدند و مشرّف شده مراجعت مینمودند . روز ورود به پورت سعید از عمارت پائین آمده و فانی را صدا فرمودند و در کوچه های شهر مشی میکردند بعد فرمودند میدانید که من علی الاتصّال میگفتم که این نقاهت من مبنی بر حکمتست عرض کردم بلی یاد دارم فرمودند حکمتش این بود که باید به مقتضیّات امر حکایت نمایم و من آنچه مخصوص بامر است آنی تأخیر نمی اندازم لهذا این ایّام اقتضای این امر آن بود که توجّه باینجهات نمایم و روزیکه از پورت سعید حرکت نمودند بعد از اظهار عنایات در وقت خداحافظی در کشتی رو به یاران کرده فرمودند به احباب بگوئید ملاحظه نمائید من در حالتیکه حال حرکت از یمین به شمال ندارم و از ضعف ظاهری تکلمّ نتوانم بجهت اعلای کلمة الله و تبلیغ امرالله و نشر نفحات الله سفر اختیار و ترک دیار و یار و اغیار نمودیم و با اینحالت قیام بخدمت امر و بذل همّت در تبلیغ امر جمال قدم جلتّ عظمة مینمایم زیرا تا در سجن بودیم و قلعه بند دلخوش و سرشار بودیم که در سبیل جمال مبارک مسجون و قلعه بندیم بعد از ارتفاع سجن آزادی از قلعه بندی بچه میتوان دل خوش نمود و در این عالم فانی زیست جز قیام به جان نثاری و خدمتگذاری و نشر نفحات حضرت باری و تصریح باین تلوین این بود که احباب تأسّی از حضرت عبدالبهاء نمایند و شرق و غرب را از انوار ساطعه افق اعلی روشن و منیر فرمایند . از جهت دیگر چون خبر سفر عبدالبهاء به پورت سعید و اسکندریّه رسید و برحسب تعبیر بعضی از دانایان قسمتی از نبوّات کتب مقدّسه تحققّ یافت و روزنامه های مصر مانند متعظمّ و علم الهدی و چهره نما و غیره هر یک مقالات مفصّل بفکر خود در امرالله مرقوم داشتند و سبب انتشار دین الله گشتند و مدیران بعضی جرائد پس از شرفیابی بحضور مبارک خاضع و خاشع گشته و لسان بمجد و ثنا گشودند و تهمت های قبل را رسما انکار کردند . یکی از یاران روحانی از اسکندریّه مینویسد : مدّت پنج ماه است که خطه مصریه بقدوم حضرت عبدالبهاء مریّن و مشرّف و در این مدّت لیلا و نهارا هیکل مبارک بذاته لذاته با قوّتی ملکوتی و قدرتی سبحانی و عظمتی به نشر آثار و انتشار انوار در این قطر مشغول و عنقریب نتائج هر لحظه آن چون شمس تابان بر عالم و عالمیان خواهد تابید دیگری مینویسد ضمنا باب لقا بر وجه دوست و بیگانه و غریب و قریب و اعلی و ادنی مفتوح و از فضلا و علما مشرّف شده و منقلب و حیران میگردند و چنان بحربیان

موّاج که هر نفسی مشرّف شود شیفته و منجذب میگردد صاحب روزنامۀ مؤیّد بخصوص از مصر امد و مکرّر مشرّف گشت و شرح شرفیابی را در روزنامه درج نمود و تکذیب افترائات کرد چنانچه خود حضرت عبدالبهاء میفرماید . ای ثابت بر پیمان قطعۀ از جریدۀ مؤیّد که اوّل روزنامه مصری است و صاحبش معروف آفاق ارسال میشود این شخص در سابق باغوای ایرانیان محترم مقالۀ چند بر ضدّ این امر مرقوم نمود و بهائیان را ملاحده تعبیر نمود چون عبدالبهاء باین اقلیم رسید بیک ملاقات منقلب گردید و این مقاله را تکذیب جمیع مقاله های سابق خویش مرقوم نمود انسان منصف چنین است همچنین چهره نما اذن شرفیابی خواست مشرّف شد و از نوشتجات خود پشیمان و تفصیل حضور و تکذیب آنچه در قبل درج نموده بود تصریحا در نمره 20 سال هفتم درج نمود در اینخصوص حضرت مولی الوری میفرمایند : امّا مدیر چهره نما این ایّام نیز مقالۀ در روزنامۀ خویش مخالف حقیقت نگاشت و احبّای الهی در مقابل تقریرا و تحریرا کلمۀ مدافعه ننمودند زیرا بکلیّ ارز اهمیّت ساقط مؤخرا اجازه حضور خواست داده شد و از مصر به اسکندریّه آمد و ملاقات گشت و بیان حقیقت شد و دلائل و براهین بر کذب تبیان مکتوب نجف اقامه گشت و ما به چهره نما نهایت محبّت و مهربانی خواهیم کرد و ابدا نظر بآن مقالات که در جریدۀ خویش مرقوم نموده ننمائیم بلکه بالعکس مقابله کنیم ولی او را آزاد گذاریم هر نوع که میل دارد بنگارد ما بموجب نصوص الهی مأمور بآنیم که نظر به نفوس ننمائیم بلکه بموجب تعالیم الهیّه عمل کنیم تصوص الهی ما را به خیرخواهی و مهربانی با جمیع نفوس عالم امر میفرماید حتّی بصراحت میفرماید باید بد خواه را خیر خواه باشید امّا چهره نما بیچاره گول روایات مفتریّه ناس خورد و البّته عاقبت به حقیقت امور پی برد کذلک روزنامه های دیگر بوصف و نعت لسان گشودند و چنان اعلان امرالله و نشر نفحات الله در این صفحات شد که از وصف خارج است . یکی از جرائد المنقطم مورّخه 25 نوامبر 1910 را ارسال مینمایم تا از قدرت و عظمت الهی آگاه شوید کی گمان میرفت که در این نزدیکیها آیات منزله کتاب اقدس در روزنامه های عربی درج شود . باری امروز نفسی در خطه مصر از عرب و ایرانی و اروپاوی یافت نمیشود که قائل بر بزرگی نفس و جلالت وجود حضرت عبدالبهاء نباشد چنانچه در همین اواخر حضرات ایرانیها آن حضرت را برای حضور در مجلس روضه خوانی دعوت نموده و حاضر گشتند . یکی از دوستان مینویسد . برای روضه خوانی در اسکندریّه حضرات ایرانیهای این صفحات از هیکل مبارک دعوت نمودند

لهذا این دعوت را قبول فرموده دونفر خوانین و جناب حاجی میرزا حسن و این فانی در حضور مبارک رفتیم مجلس روضه خوانی از رمله به اسکندریّه و از آنجا با عرّابه مسافتی زیاد پیموده تا بخانۀ میهمان رسیدیم . الحق خیلی اظهار خضوع و خشوع نمودند و در اطاق علیحدّه بجهت طلعت مبارک شام مهیّا نموده و میز را مهنّا نموده بودند و صاحبخانه با دو نفر از نفوس محترم در حضور مبارک نشسته پذیرائی مینمودند فی الحقیقه آن مجلس به وجود مبارک شکوه و جلوۀ غریبی پیدا کرد پس از صرف شام و قهوه روضه خان بالای منبر رفته و شروع به روضه خواندن نمود بعد از ختم یک جبّه خلعت به روضه خوان عنایت فرمودند و وجهی به صاحب مجلس به عنوان اینکه به نیابۀ عبدالبهاء یک مجلس مهمانی و روضه خوانی دیگری مهیّا نماید عطا فرمودند و پس از اتمام مجلس صاحبخانه و جمعی تا درب خانه مشایعت و اخترام نمودند این بود خلاصۀ از شرح سفر حضرت عبدالبهاء به مصر و امّا از روزی که این خبر جانپرور به ممالک امریک رسیده انجذاب و اشتعال و ولوله و غوغائی در میان یاران و اماء رحمن انداخته و مجامع و اشخاص عرایض مفصّله و تلگراف بحضور فرستاده اند و دعوت سفر بصفحات غرب نموده اند و تا بحال الواحی در این باب به افتخار بهائیان نازل شده که وعده های صریح سفر به امریک مبنی بر تحققّ بعضی شروط میفرمایند و ما محض اطّلاع یاران چند جمله از آن الواح را در این نقطه درج مینمائیم قوله تعالی : « خواهش و رجای احبّاء و اماء رحمن معلوم گردید و آنچه شروط آمدن عبدالبهاء به آن صفحات است بواسطۀ شما به احبّاء و کنیزان الهی مرقوم گردید امیدوارم که این شروط مجری گردد شاید وقتی به آن صفحات سفری شود » به یکی از یاران که قصری برای پذیرائی وجود مبارک مهیّا نموده میفرمایند : « خانه و کاشانه ئی را خالی و فارغ نما و مهیّا کن تا این مرغ آسمانی در آن لانه و آشیانه نماید » به دیگری میفرمایند « نامۀ که در خصوص فرح و شادمانی و طرب و کامرانی یاران امریک از سفر عبدالبهاء به کشور یوسف کنعانی مرقوم نموده بودید و همچنین انتظار ذهاب من به نفس امریک امّا این قضیّه ثانیه شروط دارد از پیش نگاشته شد که قوّۀ جاذبه لازم . در لوح دیگری میفرمایند « از فرح و سرور احبّاء با استدعای حضور من به امریکا مرقوم نموده بودید عبدالبهاء مانند عنلیب است عنلیب به گلشن پرواز کند اگر شماها آرزوی حضور من دارید باید امریکا را گلستان فرمائید یعنی آن کشور را بهر گلی از خصائل و فضائل انسانی مزیّن کنید البّته

خداوند کریم مکافات عظیم احسان نماید و شاید این عندلیب مرور بآن گلشن کند و در لوح دیگری نازل گردیده در خصوص خصوص آمدن من به امریک مرقوم نموده بودید که احبّاء محلاتّ ورود مهیّا کرده اند از پیش نامۀ به امّة الله لوا بواسطۀ شما مرقوم گردید که بمحلات قلوب لازم یعنی احبّای امریک باید در نهایت اتحّاد و اتّفاق مبعوث و محشور شوند تا مغناطیس عبدالبهاء گردد و بکمال محبّت و حرارت سفر به امریکا نماید هروقت نفحه معطرّی بمشام رسد البّته عزیمت گردد پس از وصول و انتشار این الواح مقدّسه بهائیان واشنگتن که همیشه در انجام خدمات جانفشانی نمودند کمیتۀ باسم کمیتۀ پذیرائی عبدالبهاء متضمنّ 7 نفر رجال ثابت راسخ از این شهر 6 نفر از شیکاغو و 6 نفر از نیویورک انتخاب نموده که با سائر انجمن های بهائی امریک باب مراسله نگاری را مفتوح نموده و شروط کاملۀ اتحّاد و اتفاقّ یاران را که سفر حضرت عبدالبهاء منوط بآن است فراهمآورند و چون پس از دو سه ماهی این شروط تحققّ یافت و مشاورات محافل در باب پذیرائی هیکل میثاق باختتام رسید و پروگرام معیّنی هویدا گردید آنوقت یک عریضۀ که بامضای جمیع احبّای غرب رسیده باشد حاضر نموده و بحضور مبارک ارسال خواهند داشت و آن وجود مقدّس را به قوّۀ محبّت و الفت جذب به ممالک غرب خواهند نمود . سفر حضرت عبدالبهاء به ایالات متحدّه امریک یکی از بزرگتریت مسئل مهمّه تاریخی دنیا محسوب زیرا این سفر تنائج بیشمار و فوائد لایحصی منتشر خواهد یافت فلاسفۀ غرب بحضور مبارک مشرّف خواهند شد و بگوش خود بیانات حکمت آمیز استماع خواهند نمود کلمة الله ارتفاع عظیم خواهد یافت و علما و بزرگان غرب را به غلغله و زلزله بزرگ خواهد انداخت انوار حقیقت ظاهر شده و ابر های باطل معدوم خواهد گشت . از اخبارات محزونه آنکه در چهارم ماه ژانویه پدر مهربان « مسترهی پولیت دریفوس » از این دار فانی به ملکوت ابهی صعود فرمود پدر مستر دریفوس که 70 سال داشت یکی از بهائیان ثابت و راسخ پاریس بود و در امرالله بخدمات قائم خود مستر دریفوس امروز یکی از بهائیان عالم بین امللی است زیرا کتاب ایشان که مبنی به دین عمومی بهائی است در اروپ و امریکا بسیار مشهور و قابل اعتماد به تحسین تعالیم این امر است . مشار الیه برای تبلیغ امر بهائی به ایران و هندوستان و امریکا سفرها نموده و در محافل کبری خطابه ها نموده و چندین سفر بحضور حضرت عبدالبهاء مشرّف گشته و در خواندن و نوشتن و و صرف بیان فارسی و عربی ترقیّات حسنه را دارا هستند . نجم باختر در نهایت غم و حزن ایشان را از فوت پدر مهربان تسلیت مینماید و امیدوار است که روح پرفتوح این ثابت بر پیمان در جوار رحمت کبری منزل دارد . آمین یا ربّ العالمین .
