Talk:The American Bahá’í/Volume 1/Issue 1/Text

From Bahaiworks

Whew!

Dear Friends, I've done the first editing run-through of the first issue of the first volume of The American Baha'i and it was a lot. Those friends were being very creative with some of their page design and illustration and the OCR didn't know what to do with it. But, that wasn't so hard to fix, it just took some time and making some decisions about how best to organize content on a page for the person coming through later using a screen reader or wanting to copy the content.

I did not see an option to selecte "First Proofing" such as I saw with Baha'i News.

The Advanced edition option allows for a variety of sizes of headings, and there are a large variety of sizes of section headings so this is an aspect for future consultation and proofing, should we care about that or not?

Also, TAB had a certain style for book titles that was all caps, which really feels weird, but maybe that will change in the future so we will see. I tried out seeing if the books titles were more obvious is they were bolded, not sure if I like that or not.

There were some fascinating articles to read and I may point people to them occasionally at Baha'i Studies on Facebook.

And, may I also suggestion a Bahaipedia page on NABOHR, the North American Baha'i Office of Human Rights.

It's been awhile since I've worked on long documents, lots of scrolling up and down, maybe there are some keyboard tricks I need to remember/learn to do that.

I think with the next issue I will tighten up the pages first, add all the accent marks next, and then look closer at the content and how it was laid out.

This will be a nice winter project for me. Candace Hill

Great job with this Candace, I know it's a ton of work! For formatting, style, headings and things like that I'd say don't worry about it right now, it can be just as much work as the proofreading itself! To mark a page as proofread place {{ps|1}} in the "notes" section at the top of the page and delete the text {{ocr}}. Then on this page you can press the "proofreading complete" button which is just below the "Save changes" box. Here is a gif/video walkthrough of all that: Help:Editing#Mark_a_page_as_proofread.
