Davison Bahá’í School Announces Program
for "Homecoming" over Labor Day Weekend
One of the high-points of the season takes place at the Davison Bahá’í School over the Labor Day weekend, September 5, 6, and 7. Traditionally, “Homecoming” provides the exciting and fruitful conclusion to the summer session at the school, and is the occasion for a giant get-together before regional Bahá’ís scatter for another several months.
Area youth will open the weekend session at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, and will also have charge of the program that evening. On Saturday afternoon a symposium on “Teaching the Faith” will be conducted: Speakers will be Winston Evans of Nashville, Tenn.; Archie Tichenor of New Jersey, and Violet Wuerfel of Ann Arbor, Mich. These three people constitute the major teachers and speakers for the weekend.
Sunday morning Miss Wuerfel, recent winner of one of the Valley Forge Medals for outstanding teaching of American citizenship in public schools, will speak on “America’s Spiritual Mission.”
The public talk on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. will be given by Winston Evans, and is entitled “The Search for Truth.” Refreshments will be served; Bahá’ís have found this an excellent time for introducing their friends to the School and to other Bahá’ís.
Sunday evening Archie Tichenor will speak on “Reaching the Eyes and the Ears of the World.” Mr. Tichenor’s experience in audio-visual work will provide the background for his talk.
The program will be officially closed on Monday morning, September 7th, when Mr. Evans paradoxically draws the curtain with a talk— “Make a Beginning!”
In addition, “Homecoming” scheduling at Davison always allows plenty of time for special events, such as reports from friends recently returned from faraway places, and also provides ample allowance for visiting and individual exchange of news and activities.
This excellent program will attract another capacity crowd such as Davison enjoyed for Homecoming last year, so those planning to attend overnight or for the weekend are advised to send in reservations as early as possible to assure accommodations. Ventura Meetings Attract Favorable Publicity
The Bahá’ís of Ventura, Calif., began a series of weekly public meetings on January 23 to proclaim the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith. These meetings were sponsored by the Los Angeles Bahá’í community, who
furnished speakers for each meeting.
Topics such as “What is Bahá’í?,” “Religion for Modern Life,” and “Bahá’ís and World Affairs” stimulated wide interest in Ventura and in many outlying cities. Attendance was termed very good.
One of the gratifying results of these meetings was the cooperation received from the local newspapers, which formerly were uncooperative. When the meetings were started a display advertisement featuring an illustration of the Temple and “Words for the World” was planned for each Saturday’s issue.
A result of this publicity has been the request for a feature story on the House of Worship and its function. Of even greater importance, there were two enrollments at Riḍván, and several contacts continue to attend firesides.
“Perhaps other small groups will find encouragement from this report,” the Ventura correspondent writes. “It is definitely the result of prayer, hard work, a unity of spirit, regular publicity, and cooperation.”
