Bahá’í News[edit]

No. 22 BAHA’I YEAR 116 DECEMBER 1959

Membership Increase in United States Since Ridván 1959 Reported by NSA[edit]

From time to time during the remainder of the Ten-Year Plan, the National Spiritual Assembly will report the progress being made with respect to the increase in members of the Bahá’í community. This first report covers the period from May 1 to September 30, 1959.

During the period, 152 new adult memberships were reported (about evenly divided between communities and areas outside established communities), and 34 youth declarations were received, making a total of 186 new members. Added to this figure are 44 adults and 7 youths transferred to the United States from outside the country, and 4 reinstatements, or a total increase of 241.

As against this increase we are grieved to report loss by death of 43 believers, 41 withdrawals from the Faith, and 21 transfers of membership to places outside the United States, leaving a net gain of 136, of whom 100 are adults.

Six New Radio Scripts Published by Radio Service Committee[edit]

Six new scripts for radio presentation and other uses have been published by the Radio Service Committee, and are now available for distribution.

“The Bahá’í Viewpoint,” numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4, is a series geared for a weekly or continuous radio program. They are in a question and answer style, running fourteen minutes each. The series of four costs $1.00 per set.

“The Bahá’í Viewpoint—The Meaning of Life” (No. 1): Covers such topics as the meaning of life, the Bahá’í definition of God, salvation, etc. Ordered alone, 30c each.

“The Bahá’í Viewpoint—God and Human Society” (No. 2): This script covers progressive revelation. Ordered alone, 30c each.

“The Bahá’í Viewpoint—The Return of Christ” (No. 3): Explains Bible prophecy with regard to the return of Christ. Ordered alone, 30c each.

“The Bahá’í Viewpoint—Religion and Churchdom” (No. 4): Points out the many denominations of Christianity and other religions, and how they can be united through Bahá’u’lláh. Ordered alone, 30c each.

The other two scripts, which are not part of a series, are:

“Prayer is a Key”: An explanation of why man needs to pray, and illustrates various types of prayer. Reading time is thirteen minutes. 30c each.

“A Memorial Day Meditation,” or an alternate title “New Light on the Life Hereafter”: Gives the Bahá’í teachings concerning the great mystery of death and of a life beyond. Reading time is fourteen minutes. 30c each.

These scripts are not only good for radio programs, but also public meetings, firesides, and individual teaching. College and high school youth would find these an exceptional assistance in their program planning.

Order from the Radio Service Committee, Mrs. Charlotte Keefrey, secretary; 2416 Waunona Way; Madison 5, Wis.
