Prayer for Peace in Action
For this year’s United Nations Day and Human Rights Day Observances, the US. United Nations Committee has developed a plan of holding prayer meetings on Sunday afternoon, October 21, and Wednesday evening, October 24, and also on Sunday afternoon, December 9, and Monday evening, December 10. Prayers and selections of readings from the sacred writings of the Bahá’í, Mohammedan, Christian and Jewish Faiths have been arranged in a printed program. Guest Books will be supplied for the signatures of those attending. As soon as possible after the meeting, the Guest Books, which are to be returned to a designated member of the U.S. United Nations Committee, will be presented in a photographed ceremony to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
A similar, but different, program for Human Rights Day has also been prepared. A package containing both programs, Guest Books, and a covering letter with full instructions will be mailed to every local spiritual assembly in the United States. The committee will also send a generous supply of these packages to the area teaching committees for distribution to selected groups and isolated members. Mailing date: August 15.
We hope to reach all Bahá’ís who would like to take part in this nation-wide effort for peace and support of the United Nations. May your programs this year prove more rewarding and fruitful than ever!
For those who prefer, there are many other ways of observing these special events. For instance, the record made and distributed a year ago is still timely. Dinner meetings or pot luck suppers featuring foreign dishes are always enjoyable; programs of music and folk dances of various nations have a strong appeal.

National Assembly Warns of Covenant-Breakers Overseas
Military personnel overseas, especially in France, should be alerted by their families to the danger of Covenant-breakers. Believers should consult with the national assembly of the country in which they are stationed ‘or visiting before contacting any of the Bahá’ís.

Institutes on Proclamation,
Teaching and Consolidation
Week-end institutes for proclamation, teaching and consolidation are to be held in every section of the country in late September and early October under the direction of the American National Teaching Committee with the cooperation of the area teaching committees. The purpose of the institutes is to further the preparation of every individual Bahá’í to discharge his sacred obligations to proclaim and teach the Faith, and to assure a succession of victories in these closing days of the Crusade which will completely overshadow, by comparison, all past accomplishments.
Exact dates and places of the institutes will be furnished in sufficient time for each believer to make plans to attend the nearest one. A special file of materials is being produced and will be available at cost to each registered Bahá’í attending the institutes.
New Subject Index Now Available
A new 50—page subject index of The Kitdb-i-iqdn is now available from the National Reference Library Committee at $1.50 per copy, mailing costs included. Other subject indexes available are Seven Valleys (9 pages), 30c; Hidden Words (10 pages), 35c; Bahá’u’lláh’s Writings in Bahá’í World Faith and Gleanings (combined, 75 pages), $2.00.
These indexes represent an attempt to list, in summary form, most of what is said, paragraph by paragraph, about each of twenty subjects. The subjects are the classifications of existence established by the Bahá’í Revelation, beginning with the three worlds or conditions of existence (SAQ p. 267), and breaking these down according to what has been explained about each. What results is not only a detailed index, but a series of compilations about each of the vital classifications of existence. It is hoped that the material will not only meet the requirements of an index, but will prove useful as a supplement to the study of Bahá’u’lláh’s Writings.

National Fund Requires Your Prompt Action
Dear Friends:
Last year’s experience with the National Bahá’í Fund was accurately called a “cliff-hanger.” In the first five months of the year we got off to a miserably slow start and accumulated a deficit of over $107,000. It then required messages of extreme urgency, and a memorable response by the American Bahá’í Community to overcome the deficit and close the year with a surplus.
This year it has been necessary to increase the budget by 13.6% to take care of the costs of a steppedup teaching program on the home front. With such brilliant success in all fields announced at the National Convention, the National Spiritual Assembly hoped that the momentum would carry forward into the new fiscal year without interruption, since this represents the climactic fiscal year of the World Crusade.
The bar chart and figures above show that such a hope has not been fulfilled. The figures are particularly disappointing when it is considered that, unlike the procedure followed last year, they include large, non-recurring special gifts as well as regular contributions. In addition it is quite possible that the total received in the special gifts category this Year will fall substantially below last year. If this occurs, a larger share of the load must be carried by regular contributions.
These facts are called to your attention early in the year so that they can be understood fully befere we are too deeply sunk in deficit and face another crisis. The National Spiritual Assembly appeals to all individual Bahá’ís, groups and local spiritual assemblies to ponder the needs of the Fund at this crucial point in the Crusade and to face their responsibilities so that total victory can be assured.

Africa Still Needs Pioneers
THE CONGO—One or two pioneers are needed. They should be self supporting, French speaking, physically fit and able to lead the simple life. They should not have children with them and, preferably, should be doctors or teachers. Maturity in years as well as in the Faith is also desirable. If you can qualify, or know of someone who can, please get in touch with the National Spiritual Assembly or with the U.S. Africa Teaching Committee.
WEST AFRICA— Pioneers are needed in the countries of the West Coast of Africa. For example, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierre Leone, Togo and some of the islands off the coast are very much in need of more Bahá’í teachers. For details write to the U.S. Africa Teaching Committee. Mrs. Sylvia Parmelee, Secretary, 4700 47th St. N.W., Washington 16, D.C.

Residence Address Required
for Every Believer
Any believer changing his mailing address from a residential address to a post ofl‘ice box must include in his notice to the various administrative bodies, such as local spiritual assembly, area teaching committee, or National Headquarters, the information as to whether this address change is also a change in residence. A post office box does not constitute a legal address or proof of residence in any particular city, county or township, and inasmuch as Bahá’í administrative units are based upon areas of civil jurisdiction, information of residential location of each believer is necessary.
