One Means of Proclamation

The publicity committee of the local Spiritual Assembly of Gallup, New Mexico, has recommended a method of proclamation through the press, and possibly through TV, similar to the services which have been offered in recent years to the Bahá’ís attending the National Convention. The idea was successfully carried out at the gathering held in June at Pine Springs, Arizona, on the Navajo Indian Reservation, and is being shared with the believers for use especially in these months of “mass proclamation.”

The basic idea is to rush pictures and news of gatherings and events attended by Bahá’ís and non-Bahá’ís to the newspapers in their home towns, so that the news does not lose its value time-wise. A story with pictures could be in the newspapers within a day or two after the beginning of the event. This may be done through the use of Polaroid camera equipment, air mail, and the effectiveness of contact previously made by the Bahá’í press representatives with their local publicity media.

Using a Polaroid camera, news pictures of Bahá’ís and visitors could be taken on the scene to be sent via air mail to their home towns for immediate release. These “instant pix” accompanied by a news release incorporating mimeographed information about the event (prepared beforehand by those sponsoring the activity) plus the added typed caption and material about the event and photographs, would be sent to either the home town newspaper, or possibly TV station, or to the local Bahá’í press representative to be presented personally, whichever is the most advantageous.

The sponsoring body of the event should have already prepared, in mimeographed form, a standardized sheet with information on the event, and clipped it to a “lead” page to be typed at the scene, with names, etc., specifically applying to the accompanying pictures.

The individual handling this for his local community or group would need to come to the meeting with the following information:

1. Home town paper name, address, name of staff

contact.

2. If no paper, perhaps a TV station could use

pictures.

3. Name of home town Bahá’í press representative

(for reference in story).

4. Details of trip by the individuals in the pictures.

If each believer or group representative comes prepared to use every opportunity for wider proclamation of the Faith through the press, this idea can be very effective.

Rex King Deprived of Bahá’í Membership

Following full investigation and consultation on. certain information concerning the activities of Rex (Reginald) King who has resided in various localities in Central California in recent years, it became necessary for the National Spiritual Assembly at its September meeting to deprive Mr. King of his Bahá’í membership and voting rights.
