SPECIAL BULLETIN #1
BAHA'I] WORLD CONGRESS
London, England April 28, 29, 30, May 1, 2, 1963
The Baha’i World Congress, with participants com- ing from every part of the globe, will commemorate:
The Hundredth Anniversary of the founding of the Baha’i Faith,
The completion of the Guardian’s Ten-Year Global Crusade.
It likewise constitutes the first Baha’i World Congress and is the last of the conferences called for by the Guardian. It is anticipated that all believers who can possibly attend will wish to do so.
To take care of the physical arrangements of the Congress in London, the Hands of the Cause in the Holy Land have appointed an international “Baha’i World Congress Arrangements Committee.” This committee has secured London’s noted and historic Albert Memorial Hall for the Congress sessions. It has also obtained, from a reliable and well-known travel company in London, the guarantee of sufficient rooms, in hotels and private homes, to accommodate the estimated number of attending believers.
Definite and detailed information regarding the different categories of accommodations, with specific rates, together with explicit directions for making reservations, will soon be sent to all those who have already indicated, on the questionnaire (insert, January BanA’t News) their intention to attend.
To provide for transportation to London, and to be generally responsible for furnishing the American Baha’i Community with all information and direc- tives in connection with the Congress, our National Spiritual Assembly has appointed a National Con- gress Arrangements Committee, Mrs. Margaret Chance, secretary.
The Hands of the Faith in the Holy Land have designated the K.L.M. Royal Dutch Airlines as the official carrier for travel to London by plane from all over the world. Below are rates from four dif- ferent departure points in the United States, based on round-trip “Jet” planes (140 seats) on ‘‘charter”’ flights carried out by K.L.M., an official airline operating under the rules and arrangements of the Civil Aeronautics Board and the International Air Transport Association. For their own safeguard, the National Spiritual Assembly cautions the friends
against using any of the independent airlines or privately-owned planes, not under these regulatory agencies.
Rates based on outward flights to London, on or before April 23, 1963 and return flights on or after May 3, 1963:
New York-London-New York $200.00 per person Chicago-London-Chicago .... 257.00 per person
- Houston-London-Houston .... 273.00 per person
- If flights are executed on the days that
K.L.M. operates a Houston Service — otherwise $335.00 per person.
Los Angeles-London- Los Angeles ............-5 432.50 per person
The above rates are as of February 23, 1962. The exact rates for 1963 are not obtainable until Septem- ber or October of 1962, but the trend of the jet char- ter rates is down. These are the very lowest rates possible when using the regular, official airlines.
Travel on these chartered planes is open only to Baha’is who have been bona fide members of the American Baha’i Community at least six months prior to the signing by the National Spiritual As- sembly of the contract with K.L.M. However, “‘de- pendents”’ of such Baha’is (wife, husband, children), even though not believers, are eligible, on the basis of full charter fare (no half-fares allowed for chil- dren). It must be remembered that any non-Baha’i
“‘dependents”’ will not be able to attend the Congress.
Realizing that many of the friends may wish to
include some travel on the European continent,
with attendance at the Congress in London, a
thorough investigation of the most reliable and best-
equipped travel operating companies has been made
by the committee and its choice submitted to the
National Spiritual Assembly for approval. Several
conducted “‘All-Expense Tours’’ of varying lengths,
planned for operation before and after the Congress,
will be available at very advantageous prices. For
instance, if time is very limited, one could include
Paris for four nights (three days), with city sight-
seeing and Versailles by motor coach—all hotel
expenses, transfers and round-trip plane fare from
London — back to London for an inclusive cost of
[Page 2]$64.00 per person. Also available will be an eleven-
day tour covering Paris and the best part of
Switzerland by motor coach for $225.00 from London
back to London. Or there is a twenty-day trip in-
cluding Holland, Germany by motor coach (the
Rhine, Frankfurt and the Black Forest), Switzerland,
Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome), France (the Riviera
and Paris), from London back to London for $432.00
per person. Other interesting itineraries will be
included.
All of the conducted tour prices are from London back to London, and will be scheduled to connect with the different “‘charter’’ flight departures from that point for the, United States.
The National Spiritual Assembly wishes to em- phasize that all plans which are being made for the American friends, both in regard to plane transpor- tation and to the especially arranged ‘“All-Expense Tours (pre-Congress or post-Congress), are offered
to the believers simply for the purpose of assuring them the most reliable and comfortable means of travel at the lowest possible cost. Everyone, how- ever, is perfectly free to make whatever arrange- ments he or she desires, either with these organized groups or on a completely independent basis.
Further information regarding the Baha’i World Congress will be released as quickly as possible.
