"BE YE NOT SEATED.AND SILENTl"
by Norma Nielson
"Do ye know in what cycle ye are created and in what age ye exist? This is the age of the Blessed Perfection and this is the-time of the Greatest Name!" "This is the time for growing: the season fer joyous gathering: Take the cup of the Testament in thy hand; leap and dance with ecstasy in the triumphal procession of the Covenantfi“ “Be ye not seated and silenté"
Truly, these words of AbdufilaBaha are overpowering in their impact, awsome in their magnificence. Their very utterance causes onefis entire being to tremble in anticipation of the will of God. But, are we fully aware of the fact that these are commands? ”Be ye set seated and silentfi" This is not merely a flowery phrase written for the purpose of stirring the soul, this is an ordinance of GodE And we are told by BahafluVllah ”Faith in God, and the knowledge of Him cannot be fully realized except through believing in all that hath proceeded from Him, and by practicing all that He hath commanded and all that is revealed in the Book from the Supreme Ben.”
The bounteous reward which we are promised shall be ours as the promotors of the Cause of God is glorious beyond belief. It is a human trait to become so ens thralled with its promise that we forget that our dream has not yet come trueo We cannot affori to bask in the splendor of God’s kingdom on eartho...yet. Now is the time for spreading the Word, so tnat~world Unity can have being and reality. And the werd will not be spread through belief alone, nor through action for the sake of action. There must be action because we are so enkindled with the love of God and so enrapu tured with the vision of our Beloved that we;nust tell the world about it or burst with the very ecstasy of
‘our burden! '
This Love in our hearts, illumining our faces with radiance and light, is the only means of attracting a world which is groveling in self-love and opinion° The safe, sane path of the living is for those who desire the approval of the living. The path of love is the

ordeal of fire, and our reward is not found among the living, but in the attainment of eternity. In the ”Seven Valleys“ we read, ”Love's a stranger to earth and heaven too - in him are lunacies seventy and two,“ And Baha‘fi'llah tells us, “When the fire of love is ablaée it burneth to ashes the harvest of reason.” Twenty thousand men, women, and children were not mare tyred because they withdrew into shells of contentment, and in solitude found peace with God. We must set human opinion as naught if we are to be successful in our endeavor. Tact and diplomacy are important virtues, but we must not let them overshadow our zeal for the Cause. Nor should we dwell continually in the same niche of worship we have carved for ourselves. Abdu’l-Bahá tells us, "HOW many a soul, who traveled in one pathway - and after a time wanting firmness went back - yea, followed the way again, until he reached the same point, and arrived at the same destination. Thus did he waste his life and endeavored to set the minds uneasy and doubtful° The Opportunity and portion of these souls became an evident 10880“
ander these words of Abdu’leaha, speaking of those holy souls whom Baha'u'llah promised would appear to raise the sacred torch of faith and establish the world's supreme foundation: "These shall labor ceaselessly by day and by night,“ shall heed neither ' trial nor woe, shall suffer no respite in their efforts, shall seek no repose, shall disregard all ease and comfort and, detached and unsullied, shall consecrate every fleeing moment of their life to the diffusion of the divine fragrance and the exaltation of God's holy Word.n Oh, if we could but realize the significance of those words: If we could be fully aware of the meaning of "every fleeting momenté“ The Master goes further: "I am waiting, eagerly waiting for these holy ones to appear: and yet, how long will they delay their coming? .My prayer and ardent supplication..... is that these shining stars may soon shed their radiance upon the world...“

?BE YE NO? SEATED AND SILENT!" (CONT'D)
‘ Oh, young people of' Bahá’í we are the eagerly awaited' In our hands lies the future of our Beloved Cause. we should not, we cannot, even, it is fLrhidden us to Withdraw into the comfortable shelter_ of, "I am.a Bahá’í - I have found the truth, I hope you do too." we must take the plunge into the fire and be demolished in the flames of love° The way of the Lord is indeed meant for heroes, not cowards, and if we do not take the plunge, who will? "He, verily, who seeks for pearls must dive to the bottom of the sea, endangering his very existence." But, oh, the beauty of the pearl to be uncovered in the depths.
And we shall not be alone. We are told by Christ, I‘Lo, I am with you always," and by Abdu’l-Bahá, "By God, verily the Lord of Hosts is your support, the angels of heaven your assistance, the Holy Spirit your companion and the Center of the Covenant your helper. Be not idle, but active and fear nLt. “ And the glorious words of Baha'u 'llah: uBy the righteousness of God! Who openeth his lips in this Day and maketh mention of the name of his Lord, the hosts of Divine inspiration shall descend upon him from.the heaven of My name, the All-Knowing, the AllAWise.....There lay concealed within the Holy Veil, and prepared for the service of God, a company of His chosen ones who shall be manifested unto men, who shall aid His Cause, who shall be afraid of no one, though the entire human race rise up and war against them. these are the ones, who, before the gaze of the dwellers on earth and the denizens of heaven, shall arise, and, shouting aloud, acclaim the name of the-Almighty, and summon the children of man to the path of God, the All-Glori-‘ ous, the AllaPraised. walk thou in their way! and letno one dismgy thee. Go.forth with the Tablet of God and His signs,' and rejoin them that.have believed in: .Me, and announce unto them. tidings of Our most holy. Paradise. . .
Once having read these words, can we then sit back and await the fulfillment of promise? Can we be con

‘ The Bahá’í youth have such a tremendous opportunity
for serviée to God. Throughout their lives, the prime
motivation "of their being must be to attain His Presence detached from everything pertaining unto the
world and dependent solely on Him. The path is exceedingly hard but must be tread. This Goal of growing nearer to God necessarily must be striven for con;
tinually as we progress into marriage and aparenthood.
For this reason, it would indeed be important that we,
as youth, study and explore the depths of the Marriage
Tablet of Abdu'l—Baha, with our hearts seeking the
path of true dedication. Can we not gain insight into
the institution of marriage as being an instrument to
attain our Goal. '
'MARRIAGE TABLET
8"The bond that unites hearts most perfectly is loyh alty. True lovers once united must show forth the utmost faithfulness one to another. Ybu must dedicate your knowledge, your talents, your fortunes, your titles, yeur bodies and your spirits to God, to Baha'u'llah and to each other. Let your hearts be spacious, as spacious as the universe of God:
Allow no trace of jealousy to creep between you, for jealousy, like unto poison, vitiates the very essence of love. Let not the ephemeral incidents and accidents of this changeful life cause a rift between you.. When differences persent themselves, take counr sel together in secret, lest others magnify a speck into a mountain. Harbor not in your hearts any grievance, but rather eXplain its nature to each other with such frankness and understanding that it will disappear, leaving no remembrance. Choose fellowship and amity and turn away from.jealousy and-hypocrisy.
Your thoughts must be lofty, your ideals luminous, your minds spiritual, so that your souls may become a dawning—place for the Sun of Reality. Let your hearts 'be like unto two pure mirrors reflecting the stars of the heaven of love and beauty.
Together make mention of noble aspirations and heavenly concepts. Let there be no secrets one from

another. Make your home a haven of rest and peace. Be hespitable, and let the doors of your house be open to the faces of friends and strangers. Welcome every guest with radiant grace and let each feel that it is his own home.
No mortal can ’conceive the union and harmony’which God has designed for man and wife. Nburish continup ally the tree of your union with love and affection, so that it will remain ever green and verdant throughout all seasons and bring forth luscious fruits for the healing of the nations.
0 beloved of God, may your home be a vision of the paradise of Abhá; so that‘ whosoever “enters there may feel the essence of purity and harmony, and cry out from.the heart: ”Here is the home of love! Here is the palace of love: Here is the nest of love! Here is the garden of love!"
Be like two sweet-singing birds perched upon the highest branches of the tree of life, filling the air with songs of love and rapture.
Lay the foundation of your affection in the very center of your spiritual being, at the very heart of your consciousness, and let it not be shaken by adverse winds.
And when God gives you sweet and lovely children, consecrate yourselves to their instruction and guidance, so that they may become imperishable flowers of the divine rose-garden, nightingales of the ideal paradise, servants of the world of humanity, and the fruit of the tree of your life.
Live-in such harmony that others may take your lives for an-example and-may say one to another: "Look= how they live like two doves in one nest, in perfect .Alove, affinity and union. It is as though from.all_
eternity God had kneaded the very essence of their beings for the love of one another.“
Attain the ideal love that God has destined for you, so that you may become partakers of eternal life forthwith. Quaff deeply from the fountain of truth, and dwell all the days of your life in a paradise of

Be to each other as heavenly lovers and divine beloved ones dwelling in a paradise of love; Build your nest on the leafy branches of the tree of"love. Soar into the clear atmosphere of love. Sail' upon the shoreless sea of love. ‘Walk in the eternal rosegarden of love. Bathe in the shining rays of the sun of love. Be firm and steadfast in the path of love. Perfume your nostrils with the fragrance from the flowers of love° Attune your ears to the soulentranoing melodies of love; Let your aims be as genu erous as the banquets of love, and your words as a string of white pearls from the ocean of love.' tent to merely accept the Holy werd, and place sacrifice on the plane of self-denial alone? Or will we reach out and welcome persecution and invite suffering for the sake of Him who has given us the Gift of Gifts? It is not enough to he resigned to the Will of God. If His light is firmly entrenched within our hearts, resignation alone will not suffice us.' We will not be able to endure one moment of separation , from Him, nor one thought contrary to His desire, and our lips shall spill forth His praise, unable to contain our gladness and exaltation. Then, and only then, will our hearts unite and ‘become as one, and "when there exists unity of the essence what power has the phenomenal? When the light of reality is shining what power has the darkness of the unreal?” "Hasten, hasten, O ye firm believers! Hasten, hasten,‘ O ye steadfast!“ "Be ye not seated and silent!” "verily, verily, the new heaven and the new earth are come!"
