BULLETIN

Issued by the Teaching Committee of Nineteen.

"Try always to concentrate your activities in one chamel and let that one be the Cause of Baha'o'llah. Then you shall see how the confirmations of GOD will

descend." Abdul Baha.

Our revered teacher, Jenabe Fazel, was a shining example to us of the consecrated soul who manifested by word and deed that he had "turned in such wise to the Kingdom of ABHA as to attract the Divine Confirmations." His very remarkable and never-to-be-forgotten teaching tour in America, ended on July 9th, 1921, when he sailed from New York City bound for the Port in the Holy Land where dwells the Center of Real Life and Real Light and Real Love. Our commendations of the work of this heavenly teacher -- however sincere and absolutely heartfelt -- are mere words, and lifeless, beside the "Well done" which Jenabe Fazel is sure to receive when he reaches the Court of the Ideal and Spiritual Xing where he will attain once again unto the outer meeting and sit at a truly spiritual feast partaking of the Wine of His Love -- the Love of the Center of the Covenant.

Since our last report there has been one long succession of spiritual conquests in many Cities, and no one save the Lord Himself can measure the great

- results which will be forthcoming from this most beautiful and confirmed seed sow ing. Many harvests will be gathered in the future, and we will look back upon this year of radiemt teaching service as "Pure Bounty" unto this vast Western Continent. We have the "Diary Cards" written by Mirza Ahmad Sohrab, which zive the pen picture sketch of all meetings in the various Cities. These have been typewritten, and will, as far as possible, be read or loaned to the friends, and then passed on to others. (We regret not being able to mimeograph these cards at this time; however, perhaps a little later this work will be accomplished). In addition to these Diary Card Reports, splendid accounts from friends in many Centers have reached us. Mrs. Slater, Mrs. True, Mr. Vail and others furnished the Chicago reports; Mrs. Paine and Mrs. Harding gave such a heavenly record i of the work in the Urbana and Champaign, Illinois section; Mrs. Potter, Mrs. Smith, Dr. Peeke and Mrs. Schneider shared detailed and glowing accounts of the program in

[Page 2]ee

Cleveland. Then there were heavenly days in Washington and Baltimore, followed by the intensive program in Philadelphia with one of the best reports we have ever received from our dear Jessie Revell. The precious confirmed work of the great teacher while he was in Philadelphia and the adjacent town of Riverton, N. J., will forever be a source of encouragement and joy to all the friends. The attractive printed programs, the wonderful openings and the entire success of the work in every Way 18 a great lesson, because the friends worked as one soul and were so happy and lovingly united that their own attitude became a magnet for the confirmations so necessary.

After the work in Philadelphia there was a stop at West Englewood, N. J., at the home of the Wilhelms for the “Annual Souvenir of Abdul Baha" -- the Feast held each year to commemorate the Feast given there in 1912 by Abdul Baha Himself. With the presence of the "Ideal Sage", there came to the umsually large gathering 7 friends and guests an indescribable peace and joy, and, as Brother Roy wrote us

there was not a discordant note."

Following this Feast Jenabe Fazel and Ahmad left for New Enzland, where another intensive program had been arranged by Mr. Randall and the friends in and around Boston. This included the precious days at Green Acre where the meetings and Feasts were enjoyed by every one. In writing about Jenabe Fazel's stay in Green Acre, Mr. Randall said:

"Jenabe Fazel seemed to broaden out our vision, to make the heart warm and to show us the great power of unity and the love of Abdul Baha."

There were also several successful meetings at Haverhill, Worcester and Princeton, Mass,, after which came the final meetings in New York City, Brooklyn, Yonkers and vicinity, during the days just preceding the departure from this country.

From the last address given in New York by the radiant Jenabe Fazel, we quote a few excerpts which will bring his beautiful spiritual atmosphere to you:

"The last hour that I spent with the Master, He turned His face to me with a great spiritual light on His countenance, saying -- 'I am sending thee to America that thou mayst start a great spiritual motion throughout that country.’ I realized then and there that this exhilaration and this work would come through Him and not through me. Apart from my faith in the Words of Abdul Baha, I have personally experienced that whenever He desires to accomplish something He will also bring about the ways and means whereby that service will be achieved in the most perfect Manner.+.+++..-++. In this American tour during the last fourteen months I likeWise witnessed with my own eyes continually day after day the confirmations and assistance of Abdul Baha. In the hundreds of meetings that were addressed thousands of men and women listened to these lectures, all of them were attracted to the Cause and at the end of the meetings they would come and acknowledge their faith in the Principles, stating -- these Principles you enumerated are the highest aspirations of our hearts and souls and we are trying to bring about the fulfillment of these noble and universal ideas......ssccsavae

"Although all the Manifestations of GOD from time immemorial have come to establish love and unity amongst the children of men, yet the supreme Manifestation, Baha'o'llah, has come more especially to unify the scattered fragments of humanity, to spiritualize the world of mankind, to civilize civilization and to set a great fire in the hearts of men so that they will turn their faces toward GOD.............

"The real Bahai is that soul who will have not one trace of wrong religious or international feeling or distinction in his mind, who will love all humanity, embrace all the children of GOD, and will serve with his greatest power to bring about that heavenly condition........-- ere

"When pilgrims depart from the Presence of Abdul Baha, He addresses them in the following manner: ‘Now that you are leaving this Holy Land, I hope you will be like unto a refreshing breeze and that as you travel on your path you will be able to quicken the dead trees and may be inspired, and enkindle the hearts of those

[Page 3]oe

who listen to you.' Many of these people were simple minded and did not know how to read or write and they would say -- "How can we do this, we have no worldly knowledge and no wisdom.’ He would answer: 'But you have faith, it is the power of faith that will create this work in you and nothing else.' That which will effect the hearts and minds of the people is the power of faith. It is one thing to talk, many people talk, but it is another thing to have an effect in the talk. Thums the greater our faith in Abdul Baha the Center of the Covenant, the more we will be inspired to speak with efficacy so that the hearts may be moved, eyes opened and ears unlocked.. oeeeeeeeeeeeedincerity and faith therefore are like the electric needle, like the electric rod which we place at the top of our houses, they direct to themselves the electric energy with which the air is charged. So according to our faith amd our sincerity in the service of the Cause we will be confirmed by Abdul Baha............

"I have witnessed so many services rendered by the friends. I have experienced so much love on their part, that I assure you I have gathered stories, facts and lectures to be delivered for many years to come about the work, the sincerity and faithfulness of the Bahais in this country to the Bahais in the Orient. Just as I brought the Message of Love from the Master to you, I am carrying your message of love and devotion to the Cause to Him, and to your sisters and brothers in the Orient; and 1 beg of you to remember me in your prayers, to think of me and realize that no matter where I am, my heart is with you and I shall be waiting to receive the good news of the progress and advancement of the Cause in this country."

---00000-- "The Bonds of the heart are founded upon the Heavenly Bounty." Often we have quoted these Words of Abdul Baha, and they are filled with deep simificances to the comprehending souls who have associated with Jenabe Fazel and who know that the indissoluble bond of the Love of Abdul Baha is the changeless bond, and that we are all united in spirit and will meet together daily, in prayer, at the Feet of the Divine Father. So the outer good-byes to our revered Jenable Fazel mean the joy of @ greater spiritual union with the friends throughout the Orient.

---00000-- "Today heralding the Kingdom is the magnetic force of the world of humanity."......Abddul Baha.

---00000-- Mirza Ahmad Sohrab is in Green Acre for the summer and is in charge of all publicity work there as well as being one of the lecturers for the season. Beyond September he has not planned his work.

---00000-- Mr. Wm. H. Randall has been travelling extensively and seems "ever on the wing" between Boston, Green Acre, New York, Chicago and other places. He has given several very successful lectures on the Temple and other subjects using the lantern slide pictures as an accompanying exhibition. These lectures are perfectly fascinating and always bring results.

---00000-- Mr. George Latimer has returned to Portland, Oregon, after several months stay in the East. He visited many Cities enroute West, Louisville, St. Louis, Omaha, Topeka, Kansas City, Glendale, Pasadena, Los Angeles, Santa Paula and San Francisco. We quote from one of his letters:

"As I look backward over faim my trip from and to Portland durins the last three months, including the two Conventions, I find it is the best one I have ever had. The condition of the Cause in so many Centers is so much better than ever before and the interest everywhere is so greatly increased, thanks to our beloved Jenabe Fazel......+.++++. Everywhere the Amity Convention has been a source of inspiration and the friends were eager to hear more about it......+.....- My mail has been full of the most fragrant letters from new souls in Japan and Australia and my heart has been greatly rejoiced thereat. They all testify to the great confirmations that are encompassing those who are serving so faithfully.........."

Mr. Louis G. Gregory has had exceptionally confirmed meetings every place he has served. To recount the spiritual victories of this illumined brother would mean to share with you a veritable volume. He has been in New York, Boston, Green Acre, Buffalo, Rochester, and is now in Cleveland, beginning what we hope will be a teaching tour covering many Cities enroute to the Pacific Coast. Every one of his reports deserve publication in full for they are replete with intensely interesting news of the progress of the Cause. One of the items of greatest interest in all cf his reports is the repeated reference to the good news he hears on all sides about the "Convention for Amity between the White and Colored People" recently held in Washington. That the Confirmations from the Divine Source simply poured down upon this Convention is evidenced by the words of commendation coming this way from all over the country, and from all classes in all walks of life.

How happy we are and how very grateful to GOD, as we realize His Merciful Benedictions, and that He doeth whatsoever He willeth!

A great Spiritual Force was set in motion at this Amity Convention. Perhaps the friends would like to know that requests have come from various sections of this country -- and other countries as well -- for thousands of copies of the program, and all letters, without an exception, have contained expressions of hope and happiness.

~--00000---+-e+ee"The Sun of Reality shall appear in Its full Splendor. Its Rays shall melt the icebergs of hatred and differences...... -eand the children of men

shall enter beneath the All-Embracing Canopy of the Oneness of the World of Humanity." Abdul Baha. ---—00000--—

Mr. Albert Vail has been in and about Chicago for some weeks giving a series of lectures both at the home of Mrs. Tre and also'at the Hall in the Masonic Temple. One series of Talks was a "Bahai Interpretations of Bible Prophecies" and another on "Universal Brotherhood." In these two series Mr. Vail covered a wide range of subjects. It would be well if these same lectures could be repeated in every Center in the country, for the friends everywhere are anxious for just such an illuminetins course of instruction.

~--00000-- One of the very interestins and delightful news items of recent weeks is that our dear old teacher and friend Mr. Paul K. Dealy who has lived in Fair Hope, Alabama, for many, many years, has sold all his possessions there, has freed himself from every tie, and is devoting all his time to the spread of the Cause, He has attended a meeting in Washington and Philadelphia, then went to Portland, Maine, and is now at Green Acre. He writes glowingly of the spiritual feasts he is enjoying with the friends every place after the many years when he was deprived of association with the Bahai family.

-~-00000-- Mrs, Isabella D. Brittingham is in Philadelphia at the home of the Revell's, 2531 N. 19th St. After living many years on the Pacific Coast, where she has served in innumerable Centers, the friends in the Eastern Citiss will be glad to know that she is in our midst once more, and at some future date she may be able to make some little re tour hereabouts as her strength permits, and the Lord willeth.

---00000+- The Green Acre Conferences opened for the season with a most promising outlook. There is a Unity this year never before attained at this wonderful Center. There has not been as large a gathering as last year, but all reports speak of the Unity, and this means a vitally important season. Ahmad is writing up the Confer. ences for the Portsmouth Herald, and in many other ways is fully sustaining his enviable reputation as a Press Agent.

[Page 5]wtih

Among those who have appeared on the Green Acre program, we find the name of Dr. A. D. Watson of Toronto, Canada, who was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Rendall. No one was more welcomed or appreciated than this splendid brother whose sweet spirit and charming personality will ever be remembered. His talk on "The Splendour of the Ages" was rich in Bahai truth, and made a very strong appeal both to the minds and hearts.

Prof. Stanwood Cobb, Mr. Wm. H. Randall, Mr. Louis G- Gregory, Mrs. Mary Hanford Ford and other Bahai speakers have proclaimed the Bahai Message, -- the pie oe of Truth which makes this Center alive with the uplifting vibrations of the spirit.

Rev. Frank A. Powell of Boston was another speaker mach appreciated because of his very appealing sincerity. His talks on "A Personal Confession of Faith" and "Meditation" were most helpful and enjoyable.

Mrs. Powell is in charge of Fellowship House.

"Evolving Consciousness of Humanity" was the subject of one of Mirza Ahmad Sohrab's lectures.

Prof. Stanwood Cobb and Mrs. Cobb, together with their assistants, are working with all heart and soul to make the Green Acre Summer School for children at Willowcote a great success. Reports indicate that this is one of the most important centers at Green Acre; the children are attracted, enthusiastic and anxious for the school sessions to begin, many are there long before nine o'clock. Mrs. Louise Gregory has written most enthusiastically of the splendid work thus far accomplished.

But wheat mst ever be the Goal for Green Acre? What mst be kept ever before our sight in connection with this vitally important Center? Listen to the Instructions of Abdul Baha:

In a Talk which Abdul Baha Himself gave in Green Acre in 1912, He said:

"This is a delightful spot, the scenery is beautiful and an atmosphere of spirituality haloes everything. In the future, God willing, Green Acre shall become a great Center, the cause of the unity of the world of humanity, the cause of uniting hearts, the cause of binding together the East and the West. This is My hope...,."

In another talk with some friends while in Acca, He said: a

"Whatever place proves a focal point for the concentrated efforts of the friends of GOD shall become a Center, provided, they live according to the Teachings of Baha'o'llah, consorting with one another in the utmost of love."

We like to ponder over these Words and rejoice with all those who are serving at Green Acre now, contributing their effort to the accomplishment of this great Unity, and by their lives, demonstrating that the Creative Word of Abdul Baha has taken effect in their hearts. |

If we could all study very often the Instructions of Abdul Baha about the importance of the Green Acre Conferences -- by the time plans are being made for the Season of 1922, hundreds of the friends from all over the country might find it possible to make their own plans to spend the entire season there and help on the "concentrated efforts" and "living the life" which shall make Green Acre the most distinctive Summer Colony in this country.

It is not too late to go for a few weeks this season, and then begin early to cooperate in every way for next year.

" ..eTake a firm hold on the Divine Testament and the Covenant. Because the spirit of this age is the Covenant and the Testament of GOD. It is like the pulsating artery in the body of the world." Abdul Baha.

---00000-- News of the progress of the work in connection with the great Mashrakol Azkar comes to us through Mrs. True, and we quote from her letter as follows:

[Page 6]« 6 "The Executive Board is truly happy to announce to the friends that after untold difficulties covering six months, the nine greet caissons stand completed on the Mashrakol-Azkar site. The friends perhaps do not realize under what difficulties this colum foundation of the Temple has been laid. Let me emmerate the three greatestof these:

"lst. The struggle to obtain the Building Permit from the Wilmette Council Board was a long and discouraging piece of work, but praise be to the confirmations of the Supreme Concourse, it ended in victory so that on the Bahai New Year Day, the first shovelsfull of earth were turned over by Dr. Bagdadi and the Chicago and Kenosha friends. Work progressed rapidly from that day until a depth of eighty-five fect had been excavated, when tremendous volumes of water were encountered. In some caisson wells three powerful pumps had to be kept working day and night to keep the wells empty so that excavation could proceed. This was difficulty No. 2.

"When nearly through with this unprecendented water difficulty, the great Labor troubles in Chicago came on, tying up every branch of. construction work. Fortunately under an Emergency Act the work on the caissons could be continued until the excevation had been completed, the water troubles overcome by filling the nine caisson wells to within 25 feet of the top with concrete. This Difficulty -No. 3 -- the great Labor strikes, ended June 15th when work was renewed on the wells and the reinforced concrete put in and at the end of June the nine caigsor column foundation was completed. At this writing the Executive Board is taking bids on the work for the next step in construction. |

"In 1903 Abdul. Baha wrote Mrs. Kate Ives of Boston a Tablet regarding the "Great Temple’ to be built in America, saying: 'This Glorious Temple resembles the oriental edifices and soon'you will see it erected there with a most solid foundation and strongest basis.’ One can truly say that to date it has been tilt on the very strongest basis and solid foundation in the great caisson colurn foundation consisting of nine concrete columns, capped with reinforced concrete, extending 125 feet down to solid rock and 6 ft. 4 in. each in diameter. Is this not a triumph? We have been so gloriously assisted by the Divine Confirmations of Abdul Baha in overcoming the above three great difficulties that we know all will come right as we arise to carry out each step of construction."

~--00000-- Also a news item from recent letters of Mr. Randall's:

"We have just had a splendid Temple Unity Board meeting in New York City... In unity is the spiritual power of the Message of the Center of the Covenant and > without that there is in reality no Temple, for the spirit is the creator, and if we are faithful to unity -- disregarding all personal views -- we become masnets..."

---0 0000--"The Temple mst be built in harmony." Abdul Baha. ~~-00000--~ .

Mr. O. Je Hanko of Newark has shared many interesting items about the — progress of the Cause in and around that section of the country, one of umsual interest was the opening of Unity Chmrch at Montclair, N. J., every Wednesday evening under the auspices of the Rainbow Circle of N. Y., and the Bahai Message and Principles are given and discussed. Mrs. Florian Krug of New York, and others, have spoken there on the Revelation.

---00000-- Mr. Chas. Mason Remey has come back to us through the Instruction of Abdul Baha, and he is the usual faithful and devoted server with the additional added charm of the spirit which clings always to those who come to us from the Presence of the Center of Life. He is, as usual, devoting all his time to the spread of the Cause, and has made several trips including a visit in Montreal, Cazenovia, N. Y., and vicinity, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and we hope will from time to tire visit many other Centers throughout the country. Very soon he hopes to be able to share with us all an account of his recent visit to Haifa and Notes taken there.

---00000--

[Page 7]ot

A splendid report from Mr. and Mrs. Hyde Dunn, who are serving in Australia, has been shared with us by Mrs. Brittingham. .. Mr. Dunn writes the report and in speaking of his wife, says:

"She never stops; her strength may be a little better, but only a little, the climate is hard upon here here, yet we have to remain here for the time being. When He desires we know the way will open for us to move to other parts and spread the Glad-tidings all over Australia. Up till now GOD has made it possible for me to have visited fifty towms, and this is wonderful, for the Call has been raised in every one of them. He sends people to me every day whose hearts are hungry..... “ll weakmess seems to leave me and the Spirit strengthens me on all my journeys.... Abdul Baha caused far reaching methods to come to us and put us into positions that carried His Message where He wanted it to go, not where we thought. So it is ercwing more patent each day that He directs every step and is close to every need with a liberal Hand and full Bounty..........There is not a thing in our lives but confirmations every day."

~--00000-- A little note from Mrs. Ruth Augur of Honolulu brings the group of dear friends there very close to us. She tells of their lovely Friday evening meetings and of the creat and very intense interest in all the news about the progress of the work everywhere. They all so thoroughly enjoy every bit of news about the Temple and Teaching work. The Honolulu Advertiser, the morning paper, published a lengthy article about the Temple with accompanying illustrations. We will be grateful to dear Mrs. Augur if she will write us a more detailed account of the work there.

~--00000--+ Because of the charm of the spirit about everything which comes from Mrs. Claudia Coles, who is still in London, we publish an excerpt from one of her letters, which was rather late in reaching us:

"By the Bounty of GOD the Feast of Rizwan given by Miss Herrick at Clapham (London) was blessed by the Spirit. Many souls felt it. Surely all sincere were on one Wire that day! Later, Zia'o'llah received a cable in answer to his to Abdul Baha in supplication, saying that HIS prayers for confirmation for that Feast had arisen. All had gone to that Feast praying for the spirit in all hearts! May GOD assist us to know how to pray!" :

---00000-- Miss Leonora Holsapple who has been in South America for several months is receiving confirmations successively. She is another one of the lovely radiant souls who are demonstrating how the spirit works when one arises severed from all else, and concentrating every effort on spreading the Divine Glad-Tidings. She is — to lecture on Education from the Bahai standpoint in September. Thousands will hear this Address, and many more thousands will read it subsequently in a publication. :

~--00000-- Miss Fanny Knobloch will be returning to this country soon, after spending a year in service in South Africa. She has visited nearly all the important Cities, has been received warmly every place and the most remarkable and unexpected opportunities have come to her for giving the Message. The Message has been widely spread. Even Miss Knobloch herself has been surprised at the wide open doors.- She found the people of South Africa hungry and very thirsty for the Real Water of Life and she gave them as much as they could drink from the Fountain of Assurance. ,

It seems to us almost certain that ways and means should have been provided for her to stay there for an indefinite period. There should be follow-up work accomplished there immediately.

",++ethe Divine Standard is the Ensign of the Covenant. It is the Manifest Assistor...... Today the penetrative power in the heart of the world is the Power of the Covenant. The more firm the believers are, the more they are confirmed." Abdul Baha.

-—~-00000-- Just as we are finishing this number of the Bulletin, we recall some Words of Abdul Baha in a prayer revealed for friends in the Orient and at a time when they "were awakening to an understanding of the importance of the Covenant." The prayer is published in full on Page 224, Vol. 8 of the Star of the West. A portion of that prayer abides with us; here it is:

"Praise be unto Thee, 0 GOD, and glory be unto Thee, O my Lord, for Thou hast sent from among Thy servants those whose consciences become clear, whose countenances were beautified; who flourished outwardly; because inwardly purified; whose faces became illumined; whose stars shone; whose hearts rejoiced; whose sorrows vanished; whose breasts dilated -- when they heard the Call of the Covenant. +eeeeeethey became firm in the Ancient Covenant; walked in the straight path; took hold of the Mighty Rope, turned to the manifest Horizon and followed in the steps of the greatly refined. »sss..se2hay consulted concerning the mighty Testament; agreed upon the right decision and were confirmed with a New Spirit. Their breasts were dilated through the reading of the Michty Covenant.........."

"Wheever does the least service for this Cause at this time will never be forgotten in the Kingdom." Abdul Baha. --~00000-- Dear Sisters and Brothers in Faith:

We are called upon at this time to remind you of the necessity for contributions to the National Teaching Fund. It would be most helpful if the friends would send to Mr. Wm. H. Randall, 35 Congress Street, Boston, Mass., whatever their heart prompts them to contribute.

( It is not an easy matter to even gently call attention to the necessity for co-operation, because the friends do not like to ask for contributions to any fund. We can only call your attention to the necessity which confronts us.

Please read once again, from cover to cover, your copy of the Divine Plan.

Do ponder over the Holy Commands therein, and see if you do not acree with us that éhere can be no cessation of activities for one instant; the seed sowing must continue in every section. It is vastly more necessary day by day, for again let us say that it is of the utmost importance that just as many as possible shall hear the Divine Glad-tidings while ths Center of the Covenant dwells amongst us. Think of what it means to come inte the Kingdom in the Dav of the great Revelators! We cannot express the deep meaning of it all in ‘vords. But when one listens with the ear of the spirit to the Anthem of the Kingdom, the longing is intense to share the Celestial Music with every soul on earth. Seeds already scattered shovld be watered. There must needs be travelling teachers; two, at least, by the Command of Abdul Baha, are to give all their time to teaching and they mst be sustained, and we should have a Fund large enough to make it possible to fulfill obligations which are pressing. . Who can finance the teaching service but the friends who are co-operating,

A working with all heart and sovl, and as one soul, to further the creat Divine Plan?

In a recent Tablet to Mr. George Latimer, Abdul Baha says: "I am praying to GOD to enable some active teachers to arise and zive lizht wnto the horizons of America."

These Words go deep into the heart and soul and we realize that this means still another CALL to herald the Message of Truth while "the “ay to the Vineyard" is easy to find. ;

Now some of the friends have contimmed their pledges of last year ‘tithout j any reminder. This general letter, however, goes to all who are receiving the Bulletins, so that they may keep closely in touch with us and help by informing i gthers of the needs and requirements of this time. We feel sure that our sisters | and brothers travelling the path with us understand this appeal and realize that it | would not be sent were it not that we ourselves feel deeply the cryinz need for teachers all over our country.

"I say unto you that anyone ‘vho will arise in the Cause of GOD at this time shall be filled with the Spirit of GOD. And GOD will send His Hosts from Heaven to help you and nothing shall be impossible to you if you have faith."

These strengthening and encouracing Words from Abdul Baha enable us to go

ce forward on the path; they will create a New Spirit “within us, and ‘vith the clarified 7262 vision we will see that "His Will is everything. His service is paramount."

1921 Respectfully and lovinzly submitted,

Aug4 MARIAM HANEY.
