Hello DBartmess,

Thank you for the proofreading you have been doing on World Order. If you need any help you can edit this page or reach me by email.

Hello David,

How do I mark the text when I've completed proofreading the whole document? Do I use the Proofreading complete button below? Where should it be placed in the text?

At the very top of the page in the "Header" template look for this section
| notes = {{bnreturn}}
You can add {{ps|1}} to that section, like this:
| notes = {{bnreturn}}{{ps|1}}
Which means the document "proofreading status" is "once". After you save the page look at the top of the for a red link titled "Proofread once". Click on that and you will be taken to a blank page. On that blank page press the "Proofreading complete" button you found.
You can also delete the warning message at the top of the page about computer generated text, by deleting "{{ocr}}" from the top of the page.
Also a note on italics, not every word needs to be italicized individually, but italics do not carry over to a new line (keyboard return). For example (view the source of this page):

This whole line will be italicized. This whole line is italicized and there is no "closing" italics marker. This part is not italicised. Here we begin italicising again, but it doesn't carry over to a new line.

Page breaks[edit]

Hi DBartmess,

Thanks for your continued work, it's really great. When I'm proofreading I try and preserve the original paragraph breaks, even when they span multiple pages. You can do that by removing the spacing around the "page" template, changing this:

is because material science deals with
the relationships between elements

{{page|82|file=World_Order_Vol1_Issue3.pdf|page=4}}

none of which has free will. Those
relationships remain constant, and

into this:

is because material science deals with
the relationships between elements {{page|82|file=World_Order_Vol1_Issue3.pdf|page=4}}
none of which has free will. Those
relationships remain constant, and

Also, the page template does not add spaces for you, so the template needs 1 space either before or after it to maintain 1 space between the words. David (talk) 21:02, 8 December 2022 (PST)

Site access[edit]

Hi DBartmess, did you receive the email I sent you about broader site access? I don't know if you have an email registered or not to know if it went through. David (talk) 12:53, 7 February 2023 (PST)

Hello David. Yes, I received your email. However it looks like the link to my user page doesn't work. In fact when I hover over it in the menu it says "Your user page (page does not exist)".

You can create it if you want, but it's not necessary, I use it to say who I am and keep track of my to-list and some things like that. David (talk) 15:17, 7 February 2023 (PST)

Exceptionally poor OCR[edit]

Hi DBartmess, I noticed that some of the OCR you were working on was very poor quality, eg World_Order/Volume_2/Issue_4/Text. I'd suggest stop working on that page for now, usually that poor quality ocr is a result of either a poor scan or outdated OCR software, and I should be able to fix it and get a much better result for you to work from. I'll try and keep an eye out, but if you run into that type of poor quality text leave me a message here and I'll fix it: User_talk:David. I'll fix Vol 2 Issue 4 text later tonight. Alternative presentation for citations[edit]

Hi DBartmess, I wanted to give you some more information about formatting inline citations. The one you have been using is enclosing the content in a <ref> tag and that works well because it does some nice things automatically like allowing the user to get the content by hovering over the citation number without scrolling anywhere else. But what it doesn't do well is allow you to place the citation content where you want them to be on a page (they will always appear at the end of a page) or to use duplicate citation numbers. For example if one page had two different articles and both articles had citations 1-10 you couldn't use those numbers again for the second article and therefore the citation numbers wouldn't match the original text. The solution to this is to use the tag instead. This doesn't do any automatic formatting, it just creates something like this: Text in a sup tag. And then at the bottom of the page you can add <hr style="max-width: 150px; margin-left:0;"> for a left-aligned horizontal bar and below that have the content of the citations on the page in the same place where they appeared in the original (as opposed to the very bottom of the wiki page). If you want an example of this latter method see this page. I've used both methods myself, so feel free to do the same. Thanks for your continued proofreading!

ChatGPT[edit]

Hi,

I wanted to let you know that another proofreader has found that running the text through ChatGPT first to correct for some common mistakes cuts a few hours off the work per issue he is doing. It might be something you want to experiment with also. David (talk) 04:01, 2 December 2023 (PST)

Discord[edit]

Hi! There is a discord channel for individuals who are working on wiki's like this one, for us to share news, talk about ideas, or chat. I'd love for you to join us there if you are interested.
